Spectrum awareness

Recon RF

Active development

Recon RF is a standalone application for software-defined radio (SDR) spectrum monitoring and RF spectrum awareness. It starts with supported hardware and received signal activity, combining spectrum investigation with native decoding and presentation of supported aviation broadcasts.

Current foundation

From spectrum activity to aviation observations.

Current hardware-aware receive workflows include discovery of supported SDR devices, receive-profile selection, live spectrum observation, band survey and signal activity. Bounded signal characterization supports investigation of observed frequency, bandwidth, level and activity state.

Recon RF has demonstrated live ADS-B reception and native decoding. Recon RF has demonstrated live UAT reception and native decoding of real aircraft broadcasts. Its aviation presentation brings supported observations into an Air workspace with aircraft and geographic context.

Reception performance depends on hardware, antenna, location and RF conditions; no universal range/performance specification is claimed. Device support is specific to validated receive profiles, and spectrum observations are not calibrated laboratory measurements.

Development direction

Broader receive and analysis capabilities.

The standalone spectrum application and operator workflows continue to develop. Broader hardware support, recording and replay, additional protocol and decoder coverage, and optional Janus integration remain future work.

Advanced signal classification and direction finding require further development and validation. Current spectrum activity and aviation decoding do not establish automatic emitter identification or completed direction finding.

Architecture & independence

Recon RF operates independently: it does not require Janus, and Janus does not require Recon RF. Aviation decoding is one part of the wider spectrum-awareness application. A current Recon RF-to-Janus data connection is not claimed.

The Development page shows real Recon RF Air and RF Analysis captures, connecting these capabilities to the software being built.
